In 1 Cor. 1:21, Paul implies that God has ordained his word to be delivered to his people through this foolish mode of communication in the eyes of the world.  Why’s it so foolish?  Because preaching simply entails explaining the meaning of God’s word and then applying the timeless truths derived from that meaning to God’s people.  There’s nothing snazzy or compelling to the natural mind.  Do you ever consider what we do through in here week in and week out through the lens of an unbeliever?  We sit for approximately 50 minutes listening to teaching from an ancient book written about people and situations far removed from our current time and circumstances.
That’s exactly what God wants because only God can do a work through his preached word and therefore God gets glory when his word is rightly preached.  Preaching is not based on human ingenuity, craftiness or rhetorical skills, for if that were the case, man could get glory.  Instead, when we dependently come to be fed life-giving, sanctifying food for our souls prepared by God, then he is honored and worshiped.
