In the end, based on the truths of John 2:24-25, Christ knows exactly why every single person gathers with the church, whether with pure or mixed motives. Christ will not entrust himself to one who is pursuing an affiliation with his church as a means of self-promotion. He will eventually and definitively expose those who profess a trust in him, but really are seeking something personal that a mere profession gets them.
So what is the remedy for this? Ultimately, it’s the removal of self from the equation. The pathway to true faith is to be far more concerned at taking God at his word by pleasing him alone, instead of promoting or protecting self. True faith comes to God through Christ needy and empty handed strictly based on what he word says, while not seeking some sort of earthly return on one’s investment of faith. That is the kind of faith Christ believes in.
