Jesus has boldly proclaimed to be the resurrection and the life in John 11:25 and even raised Lazarus from the dead to provide powerful proof of that claim, but to what extent would Jesus go to grant life to sinners?  Jesus answers that in Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”  So Jesus does not just eliminate death by snapping his fingers or something like that, but defeats death by first dying and then rising from the dead on the 3rd day.

That being said, if we focus only on the earthly blessings Christ brings and devalue his death, the foundation of our status before God becomes cracked and destabilized.  His death then was no unfortunate occurrence that should have been avoided, rather it becomes the means of guaranteeing all the promises of God for those who believe and thus the centerpiece of our life.  Any teaching that exchanges that centerpiece for something else has abandoned God’s plan of salvation.
