Ultimately, Psalm 2 challenges us to consider how we honor God’s Son, Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives. And then after we engage in a self-assessment, we must consider how others in our sphere of influence treat the Son. The NT tells us that…Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him…Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life…No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.
So just believing that there is a god doesn’t have any saving benefit. Romans 1 declares that everyone on the planet knows there is a god, but the unbeliever works incredibly hard to suppress that truth. Again, the admonition at the end of Psalm is how one treats the Son. But people don’t want to acknowledge the Son because then they’ll have to acknowledge the cross and if they acknowledge the cross, then they’ll have to acknowledge their sin that sent the Son to the cross. However, the Psalm makes it very clear that one either takes refuge in the Son by faith, or is judged by the Son.
So to the end that the lost may come to that acknowledgement, Ps. 2:12 becomes a great gospel message—
for his wrath is quickly kindled.
