In Stephen’s sermon in Acts 7, he demonstrates that repudiating God’s messenger of the truth is repudiating God himself. This principle helps us in a couple of ways. First, if we bring the truth to someone and it is rejected, we are not ultimately the ones being rejected. God is. We are simply called to disseminate the truth in love; we don’t create the truth, nor do we own the truth. We are ambassadors of the truth. Secondly, if we are on the receiving end of the truth, how careful are we to look past any of the flaws or deficiencies of the one sharing the truth in order to take heed to what God is communicating to us through his truth? Do we find ourselves quick to completely disregard the content of the message because we can discredit the messenger? That’s what the unbelieving Israelites did with Moses and with Stephen as laid out in Acts 7.
