Despite not bearing the ultimate weight of the souls in a church body, every Christian is called to have spiritual influence over others and therefore is accountable to be alert. In light of that, are we growing in the truth to the point that we can spot error more and more accurately and more quickly? Do we know when something does not accord with sound doctrine and do we know where to find the corresponding truth in the Bible?

What about the books, articles, podcasts and blogs that come at you everyday? Are they full of truth-rich and truth-derived content or are they representative of the popular trends and fads of our day? Is it the pure and unadulterated word of God or is it mixed with humanism or conservatism? Along those lines, can we spot the motives in our own hearts as to why something less than pure is attractive in the first place and then help others do the same?

Lastly, do we show a spiritual alertness with our families by constantly implementing the discipline and instruction of the Lord, along with seeking to help them discover the heart motives behind what they do and say?
