How do the Praise Psalms intend the sanctification of God’s people? It’s always humbling for us to acknowledge God as the source of our deliverance. The more we refuse credit for anything in our lives, the more useful we will be to him. Moreover, the Bible says that he delivers us so that he may receive the glory he deserves…
Ps. 50:14 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and perform your vows to the Most High,
15 and call upon me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
Ps. 79:9 Help us, O God of our salvation,
for the glory of your name;
deliver us, and atone for our sins,
for your name’s sake!
Has God done for you what you could never have done for yourself? More specifically, has He delivered you from the penalty and power of your sin by sending his Son to die for your sins? Then he deserves praise. Has God guarded your faith through your fears and your failures? Then he deserves praise. Lastly, has God delivered you from a situation, whether it was one of mistreatment or a financial or health concern? Then he deserves praise.
Keep in mind what Ps. 50:14 said: Giving praise to God for his deliverance is an offering to God; it’s equivalent to laying down a sacrifice on the altar and the smell that rises up to heaven from our lips is a sweet aroma to the Lord when it is from a genuine heart.
