it’s important to note that a decrease of thankfulness indicates a decrease in recognition of God’s work and/or God’s promises.
More specifically, a decrease or lack of thankfulness is due to:
–losing sight of the sovereign, gracious work of the gospel in your life and in others.
(spend all your time thinking about sin, weakness, struggles and disappointment);
–losing hope in the certainty of what is stored up for all who are in Christ.
(expecting everything to turn out great now instead of hoping in the perfection of heaven);
–losing endurance in pursuing the means of growth and our purpose as Christlike witnesses for the gospel.
(it doesn’t seem like what I’m doing is working in any significant way and why would God use such a failure like me anyway).
This is why Paul instructs the Thessalonians to rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thess 5:16-18).
