Do you go to the word for encouragement like the Psalmist when you feel like you’re in that kind of state? If not, why not? Perhaps you do not believe that the word will help you; that it only contains some truths that help some people at some times? Or perhaps you’re mainly seeking temporal relief or enough distraction to just cope with life.

It follows that if you don’t come to the word of God with dependent faith, then you’re not really coming to the word of God.
Furthermore, do you come to the word as your only hope; the only way you can be lifted out of the miry clay and have your feet set upon the rock?
The credibility of our Christian witness depends upon such things and God has provided what we need to find encouragement in the Christian life. In this way, he protects the treasure he has given to his people in order that they would share the excellencies of Christ’s salvation.
