Instead of supplying comprehensive guidelines for a godly wife, Proverbs 31:10-31 demonstrates the outcome of living by the wisdom principles in the Proverbs. So the takeaway from this passage is not that the wife has to go start her own business or make her own clothes. Rather, it is the character qualities that are found in the description of the excellent wife that are worth emulating. In other words, instead of thinking that the excellent wife is an entrepreneur, we must classify her mainly as a wise, God-fearing woman. More specifically, she’s trustworthy—vv.11-12, she’s diligent—vv.13-18, she’s generous—vv.19-20, she’s prepared—vv.21-24, she’s confident—v.25, she’s instructive—v.26, she’s active—v.27 and she’s praiseworthy—vv.28-31.

It follows then that the opposite of an excellent wife is predominately a faithless, fearful, bitter, controlling, lazy, self-centered, worldly, entitled, complaining, emotionally-driven, manipulative, exasperated wife. Instead of putting forth that example, families need women who are strong in character, the church needs women who are strong in character and the next generation of young ladies need women who are strong in character.
